Why retainers matter
After braces or aligners, the bone and gums around your teeth need time to settle, and teeth naturally tend to drift back towards where they were. A retainer holds them in their new position.
Most people need to wear a retainer for the long term, at least at night. We make retainers for patients who finish treatment with us, and for people who had braces elsewhere and need a new or replacement retainer.

Types of retainers
How long do I need to wear a retainer?
Your orthodontist will tell you exactly. Often, removable retainers are worn most of the day at first, then at night only. Many orthodontists recommend wearing them at night for the long term, because teeth can keep moving throughout life.
Looking after your retainer
- Clean removable retainers every day with a soft brush and cool water
- Never use hot water, which can bend the plastic
- Keep it in its case when it is not in your mouth
- Keep it away from pets, which like to chew them
- Clean around a fixed retainer with floss threaders or small interdental brushes
- Bring your retainer to your check-ups
Lost or broken retainer?
Call or WhatsApp us as soon as you can: the longer you go without a retainer, the more your teeth can move. We check your teeth, take a new scan or impression and make a replacement. If your fixed retainer comes loose, avoid biting on it and book an appointment to have it re-bonded.
