Replacing the gap

When a tooth is removed, the teeth next to the gap can slowly drift or tilt, and the opposite tooth can grow into the space. Depending on where the gap is, your dentist may suggest a bridge or a denture. Ask about the options before your extraction so you can plan ahead.

The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic.

The tooth is removed. Stitches are placed if needed.
5.
You bite on a gauze pad and get written aftercare advice.

After your visit

Bite firmly on the gauze for 30 to 45 minutes.
For the first 24 hours, do not rinse, spit forcefully, use a straw or smoke.
Eat soft, cool food and chew on the other side.
Take pain relief as your dentist advises.
From the next day, rinse gently with warm salty water after meals.
Call us if bleeding does not stop, if pain gets worse after 2 to 3 days, or if you have a fever.
